Oval Face Shape

Congratulations you have the ideal face shape!! :)
You can wear almost any hairstyle unless there are other considerations, such as eyeglasses...

You can wear short, medium and long hair styles. Your face shape is well "balanced", or in even proportion. You will look best when hair is off your face. Most oval face shapes can wear slicked-backed looks.

Avoid-
Hair styles that cover up your "perfect" features with heavy bangs, or too forward-directed styles.

In wearing your hair style on your face, you'll lose your face shape behind the hair. This may appear to add weight to your face.

How to Pick a Flattering Haircut

The key to having a flattering haircut is to create harmony between your hairstyle and facial structure.

There are several basic facial shapes, the most common are: Oval, round, square, triangle, oblong/rectangular, and heart.

To determine your face shape pull all your hair back completely off the face, get a tape measure, and take the following measurements-

1. Measure your face across the top of your cheek
bones. Write down the measurement on a piece of paper.
2. Measure across your jaw line from the widest point to the widest point. Write down the measurement.
3. Measure across your forehead at the widest point. Generally the widest point will be somewhere about halfway between your eyebrows and your hairline. Write down the measurement.
4. Measure from the tip of your hairline to the bottom of your chin

  • Oval Face - Length equal to one and a half times width
  • Round Face - Your face is as wide as it is long. This may vary a little but generally the measurement is close.
  • Oblong - Longer than it is wide.
  • Heart - Narrow at jaw line, wide at cheekbones/and or forehead.
  • Square - your face is about as wide as it is long.
  • Diamond - Widest at cheekbones, narrow forehead and jaw line of approximately equal widths.
Generally the goal is to create the illusion of an oval-shape face which can be accomplished with the right hair style.

In the next few post I will feature one of the main face shapes and explain what styling choices to choose and which ones to avoid.

Hair Disasters

Okay we have all had a bad hair day, or a bad hair cut, or a color that we just don't love... but have you ever had a hair disaster?? If so it's time to share!! :)

Mine happened on a normal Saturday of March 2009...

I went into the school I was attending at the time to get my roots touched up. I had no intention on lightening my hair or cutting it. I had been working quite some time to grow it out and I had just dyed my hair black.

However everything changed when Josh and Megan talked me into going blonde...

This picture blow is the in-between stage, they had just done a bleach wash and now they were ready to apply a full head of bleach.

So they applied bleach all over my hair and sat me under the dryer to let it process. While I was under the dryer my head started to get VERY hot as if the bleach on my head was boiling... I poked my head out from under the dryer and asked if it was suppose to feel like that and everyone said yes. I didn't want to be a woes so I sat there for a little bit longer and tried to tough it out... Then I couldn't stand it any more and got up to go outside where it was cooler... Josh followed me out side and lifted the shampoo cap off of my head and a cloud of smoke/steam came out. It was almost too hot for Josh to touch. I knew THAT wasn't suppose to happen and I freaked out a little bit.

My hair was FRIED and BRIGHT ORANGE!!!

We had no other choice but to tone my hair, but the school didn't have the color we needed so Mimi and I headed off to the store. I was to embarrassed so I wore Mimi's hat.
We toned and cut, and cut some more... and we ended up with this hair cut and color.
My hair was SO damaged and gummy... when I washed it I it would just turn into mush. It was pretty gross! And it wasn't blonde... it was a lovely peach color... YUCK!

Now you know why I have short hair now, because after this cut I couldn't stop cutting and I ended up chopping it all off.

So now it's time to share your hair Disaster in the comment section... I know you have one!!

*PS As a side note, you have no need to be afraid of bleach! My hair had a really weird reaction to the bleach because I had used a box dye on my hair way back when (before I knew better).

Locks of Love

Yesterday I had the privilege to cut my friend Danielle's hair. We cut 10 inches off for her to donate to Locks of Love. I've always wanted to donate my hair but I am not patient enough to stay away from bleach, and for the life of me I can't grow it out...

WHAT IS LOCKS OF LOVE?

Locks of Love is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada under age 21 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis. We meet a unique need for children by using donated hair to create the highest quality hair prosthetics. Most of the children helped by Locks of Love have lost their hair due to a medical condition called alopecia areata, which has no known cause or cure. The prostheses we provide help to restore their self-esteem and their confidence, enabling them to face the world and their peers. To find out more go HERE

My profession really is amazing and I am grateful that I am able to be apart of amazing things like this!!
